An Independence Day Tradition
Everybody has heard the phrase “As American as baseball, hot dogs and apple pie.” These three things must typify all that is good about America.
Senior Citizens – Vis-a-vis the Indian SocietySenior citizens in India have been facing a number of problems in the Indian society. Of late the Indian Government has enacted the Senior Citizens Act, 2007, which has helped to improve their position to some extent.
The Euro – Esperanto in Financial MarketsEsperanto means in its own language: “one who hopes.” The euro is also introduced in relation to hope. Hope for a better financial world (limited to the Euro zone where it got introduced).
Urgent Need For More Child Development ProgramsTo fight child labor and other kinds of exploitation of children one has to develop such child development programs that would provide free education to poor children. As they cannot afford to support their schooling, hence start working at an early age, to support the family.
India and the Nuclear DealThe fact remains that in the pretext to meet India’s nuclear energy needs, the Indo-US Nuclear Deal is actually a close strategic and military tie up covering political, economic and military cooperation with Washington. Through the deal, India will line up as a global partner with the evil designs of Washington in Asia. The promises of this alliance came as a first hand proof when the Indian government surprisingly voted against Iran twice in 2005 in the International Atomic Energy Agency. Therefore, only fools and opportunists will believe that America’s eagerness for the deal is for the benefits of India.
Celebrating Interdependence! In the United States, July 4th marks the celebration of Independence Day. This is typically a really fun day with lots of good food, camaraderie, and fireworks. On this particular Independence Day, I reflected that I used to think independence was the ultimate goal for a mature adult.
Power Money – They’ve Got ItThe Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia is an inter-governmental organization with a Permanent Delegation to the United Nations. As the second largest international organization after the United Nations, it has the power to rule the world. It coadjutes 57 nations, most of which are Islamic in the Middle East, North, West and Southern Africa, Central Asia, Europe, Southeast Asia, South Asia and South America.
The Canadian Healthcare System and Its ProblemsThe United States government spent $783 billion in 2006 on Medicare and Medicaid. If we went to a universal health care in this country, it would probably go well over a trillion dollars. And taxes would certainly increase.
Kokoda Villagers Need Charity Too!Kokoda has become a magnet for Australians wishing to raise money for various charities and causes. While the causes are noble and the individuals are well intentioned there is some irony in the fact that Australians are seeking to use a track in a country with a subsistence economy to raise funds for a cause in our land of plenty. There is no doubt that most of these Samaritans know little about the plight of our neighbours in Papua New Guinean before they land in the country.
What’s Important About Ethiopia? After a trip to Ethiopia in 2009, I formed some strong impressions of the country. It is in many ways a truly remarkable place. What is important about Ethiopia, is that there is a strong sense that this is the home of man (sic woman).
