Acumen finally seems to have entered the minds of UAE’s Federal Government officials who recently have started to consider the issuance of freehold property visas. This news was revealed of late by a top Dubai government official who said that introduction of residence visas on foreign property ownership in various emirates of the UAE was under serious consideration.

I wish I had started writing this series of articles called “The Subtle Differences” soon after I first landed on these shores almost three years ago, before I learned all that I know now and became accustomed to American life. One would think that the UK and the USA are very similar: after all, we speak the same language, we’re both influenced by the same cultural icons, references, films and shows and we’ve both been world leaders in recent history.

Now, obviously this is not entirely so, and it will be nothing compared to those socialist nations that have such healthcare systems. Instead China promises to provide basic health needs, and even this has got many shaking their heads.

One would think that the UK and the USA are very similar: after all, we speak the same language, we’re both influenced by the same cultural icons, references, films and shows and we’ve both been world leaders in recent history. Yet, you really have to live in both places to realize that the UK and the USA really are two very different places, with very different citizens, societies, governments and cultures.

I was transfixed and hopeful when I heard the news yesterday that Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was preparing a proposal to begin “a fresh start with the West.” Apparently, however, the forthcoming proposal may not adequately address Iran’s uranium enrichment program. That quickly turned my hope to solid skepticism.

Most participants in the 21st-century economy agree that it makes sense to spend scarce material and human resources producing only those goods and services they are relatively good at- and use their export earnings to import the rest. However, some countries will always have more resources than the others. The problem is regulating foreign trade without disadvantaging any single player.
